I haven't stopped at one yard sale all year. I'm pretty proud of myself. Even when I see rows of wooden chairs, old cupboards, tables of glass dishes......I'm making myself sad.
I can only imagine! I've been de-junking this week and I've thrown out a ton and you can't even tell. It seems the longer you stay in one spot the more you discover you can fit into a corner. We've lived here 5 years, I can only imagine how much I'll have in 10, 20 yrs. . . (scary).
I just read an article on a family that decided not to buy anything that wasn't renewable, reusable, etc. for one year. So they only bought 'depletables' -things like food, deodorant, shampoo, etc. They even reused their vacuum bags (they'd open them from the bottom, empty it out, and then staple it shut). They saved a lot of money and learned that they didn't have to have everything. Any gifts they needed to give (birthdays, Christmas, etc.) were things they had already purchased and never used or given away and they found that they could make nice things on their own. Both parents had really good jobs and the mom said that the point that she decided she was on board with the project was when she went and bought a new white dress shirt only to find that she had left a couple of them at the dry cleaners for a few months. They were just tired of the kids (and themselves) always wanting more more more. I don't know if I could do it, but it was a pretty fascinating article.
See what I can learn while waiting for the kids at the dentist office.

Hey guys....I probably meant stuff that I may not WANT. May not need is pretty tough.
