We had an enjoyable 4th week as did everyone else. We had a little event afterwards that wasn't quite as enjoyable, however. I'm not sure if it was an after effect of the celebration or what, but on Monday morning I was working in the office and wondered what that funny noise was somewhere else in the house. The wind was blowing so I figured it was due to the wind. Then, later, I was folding clothes in my bedroom, and once again. "What was that noise? Probably the wind."
Then, I take my shower and as I look into my bedroom, I see something, and thought I'd better go get a fly swatter because I've got one big moth flying around.....or is that a bird? I slam my bathroom door shut and decide I am not spending the day in there. I creep out into the kitchen and don't see anything. My eyes go up above the kitchen cabinets and I see a little wing feeling it's way around the edge of one of the cupboards. EEK! I race into the office, closing the 2 doors between the laundry room and the office, and the 2 glass doors between the office and the front door area. SAFE! I have my phone and my computer, so I figure I'll stay in here until Jay can come home from work. (2 1/2 hours to go)
I'm working on Mini Bazaar bookwork, and I decide to google, "How to get a bat out of your house". Very informative and I learned that we should trap him in a room, turn the lights on so he'll head for someplace to attach and turn upside down. Then you use a towel and grab him. The site suggested taking him outside as he can eat lots of bugs that we hate. (don't care at this point) I thought about going to do errands, etc. but my makeup is in my bathroom still. Then I see my bat friend circling above my head! I'm on the phone with Cassie at the time and let a blood curdling yell. (she said, "Mom....you know those movies when someone is on the phone when they get murdered? I just heard that scream!) So sorry Cass.
I fly out of the office, slamming the doors shut behind me and grab bath towels to put at the bottom of the doors. There, that should do it. Now my cell phone and my purse is in the office, but I am not going in there. Even though Cassie did suggest that I keep my eye on the whereabouts of our friend. I head outside to water plants and check the garden until Jay gets home. He searches the laundry room and the office...high and low....and finds nothing! What?
We finished our yard work and ran into town for a bit. We picked up Rook and Carter because I was going to take Carter to piano the next morning while his Mom had her Dr. appointment. I mentioned to them that we were kind of looking for a bat at our house. Rook is pretty worried about that, but we go in and turn on the television for a bit and Jay heads to bed. Within a couple of minutes, here comes the bat, circling the family room above our heads. I race in to get Jay out of bed and tell the boys to keep their eye on the bat! (I stay down the hall) The bat swoops down and they see his face. Rook hollers out, "Hey Grandma, he's kind of cute!" (don't care....come on Jay)
Jay gets the towel, follows the bat into the front room and scoops it off of the curtain rod. He takes the towel outside and shakes it and none of us saw anything. We are just praying that the darn thing took off. And..............it's Saturday and no signs of him. We think he is lightening fast and super sneaky. (I also think he's rabid...why else would he be flying around during the day?)
I just couldn't put a picture of a real bat on here, because when I looked at them my stomach started to quiver and I got the shakes!

What a great story! I love it how you still try to stay busy, even though inside you're freaking out! We have a good bat story, too. Skidmore family reunion, 2006. I guess you'll keep those outside doors closed better next time you're partying outside at night!
Yikes! Bats are gross. Bats with one t of course.
I love that Rook thought the bat was kinda cute. What a little animal lover!
If you start acting weird make sure your family takes you in for a rabies shot. It's a super expensive shot so I'd wait until you're acting rabid!
ugh...that gave me the shivers. and i love how your grandson thought it was cute.
I also loved the story and had visions of Skidmore Reunion "06...all I can think about are kids running everywhere...Val and Megan swinging badminton rackets, but the best part of all is Blake getting scared and hiding behind a fake plant in the entry way...like that's going to save him.
Good job for letting that creature outside to roam free again...Our bat was not so lucky. He didn't have a chance with 20 angry Skidmore cousins on a mission.
Great story I have had a bird in my house out to Mud Lake you probley remember! Not fun!! Glad you got him out!!
Eww - bats are so gross. I remember a bat in our house twice growing up. Mom chased one with a broom. Scary!
I'll comment when my ears stop ringing.
